SINCERITY BLOSSOMS English Tao Seminar 2018 Reflections ( 誠心綻放 2018英文新道親法會心得 )

Thanks for the grace of Heaven and virtues of Predecessors! Since attending the English Silent Tao Seminar last month (on May 18-20, 2018) in Michigan Zhong Shu Temple, USA, I have experienced a sincerer desire to change. After the seminar in 2017 I was excited and ready to move forward, but I constantly ignored my vow to highly regard heavenly work over the mundane. This time I feel the capacity of my heart has surely expanded because I am making Tao a priority in my daily schedule.

While all the teachings from seminar were impressive, there were three that touched my heart deeply.

1. Service is my teacher. I am a new member of temple staff and during seminar I was honored with new opportunities to serve. Now weeks after seminar I feel I am growing through service. When I am bowing, folding my body humbles me and expands my sincerity giving me a profound sense of joy. I am fulfilling a need when it is my turn and I gladly serve Tao relatives. If you’ve had this experience you know exactly what I’m talking about.
2. In Chinese, cultivation means to mend one’s ways or actions to purify ourselves. This definition reminds me that cultivating Tao is an inside job and I must spend time applying the principles to my life, analyzing my behavior, reflecting on my choices and changing what isn’t helping me evolve.
3. There are three levels of people with six distinct kinds of affinity to describe the capacity of our hearts. Affinities were listed from small to the Buddha Nature, and right now I see myself at medium capacity; understanding by listening to teachings. I expect through continued service and daily cultivating to constantly expand the capacity of my heart.

2018英文新道親法會心得

感謝　天恩師德、祖師鴻慈！自上個月（2018年5月18至20日）參加了在美國密西根忠恕道院舉辦的英文新道親法會，後學更深切地感受到需要改變的原動力。之前參加2017年的法會後，也曾感到法喜充滿並且準備向前邁進，但卻一直忽視當時所立「重聖輕凡」的愿。此次，感受到心性確實地提昇了，因為後學將「道」列為每天的優先考量。

法會中，所有講述內容都令人印象深刻，而其中三點後學感受最深：

1. 以服務為師。後學是佛堂的一位新的辦事員，十分榮幸能在法會中學習服務。在法會結束後這幾週，後學感受到自身於服務中的成長。躬身時，彎下身軀令我充滿謙下，並綻放出誠心，使後學感受到無比喜悅。後學盡己本分，歡喜地為每一位道親服務。如果您曾親身經歷，您一定能真切地體會我所說的感受。
2. 中文的「修道」，意味著修心練性。這個道理提醒後學：修道需在內心下功夫，並且時時應用於生活中，剖析自我的行為、反思自己的選擇，和改變阻礙我成長的行為和選擇。
3. 世間有三種人，有六種不同之因緣而增進信心（院長大人慈訓）。由因感應而增進信心（下乘之人），至因見性而增進信心（上乘之人）。而後學覺得自己目前處於中間的階段（中乘之人），是因慧解而生發信心的。後學希望能夠藉由持續地服務及每日的修行，不斷地精進自身心性。
